According to a source close to the Commission’s regional directorate, the interdiction includes five officials who were supposed to help in the electoral process, with the exception of municipal officers.
The parliamentary election in the Yendi seat on Saturday, January 27, was marred by claims that an Electoral Commission officer tampered with one of the candidates’ votes.
One of the Commission officers was accused of shoving Abibata’s voting papers into his jacket.
A misunderstanding ensued, resulting in the ripping of ballot papers.
It required the assistance of security personnel to put the situation under control.
The election materials, including ballot papers, were transferred to the Yendi municipal police station.
However, EC authorities declined to count and announce the findings.
The party’s third Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, named Farouk Aliu Mahama the winner of the elections.
