Ghana Has Not Experienced ’DUMSOR’ For The Past Seven Years – H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa

Ghana has not experienced DUMSOR for the past seven years

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, elaborated on his accomplishments in guaranteeing a dependable power supply for Ghanaians.

Despite recent power disruptions impacting several areas of the country, the President asserted that the nation has not encountered the event known as DUMSOR over the previous seven years. He denied allegations of intermittent power supply during the financial crisis in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2024.

During the financial crisis, the President stated that his administration has kept the lights on for the last seven years in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2024.

“Mr. Speaker, nothing was more depressing than the occurrence known as DUMSOR between 2012 and the beginning of 2017.” It was a sign of a broken system and sent jolts through business and family society.

Following that incident, my government decided that DUMSOR would not be imposed on Ghana and its citizens while the NPP was in power. I’m happy to report that, by far and away, we have been able to maintain power for the past seven (7) years, even during a financial crisis.

We have exercised discipline and expertise in managing the energy sector to prevent a recurrence of the suffering that befell Ghanaians a few years ago.

Additionally, he stated that they have greatly decreased the debt in the energy industry that they inherited.

“In addition, we have been able to significantly reduce the energy sector debt that we inherited through persistent, effective negotiation.”
