“We sat in the bucket of our coach’s pickup truck to Borteyman,” said the Ghanaian badminton player.

Ghana’s badminton team was eliminated on Day 3 of the ongoing African Games, with no Ghanaian progressing beyond the quarterfinals in any event.

However, it was the team’s off-court difficulties that made headlines.

According to a squad member, Leslie Addo, the team had to be brought to the Borteyman Sports Complex in their coach’s pickup van.

Because of the restricted room in the car, around eight players had to perch in the truck’s bucket.

“We had to sit in our coach’s vehicle on our way here and it was a pickup,” he told Joy Sports.

“Most of us had to sit in the bucket – about eight of us.

“We didn’t get any transport to the venue. We’re the host nation so how could that happen.”

Members of the team also complained about the late arrival of their playing equipment, which prevented most of them from testing it before to the competition.
