In a recent move by President Akufo-Addo, Gary Nimako Marfo, a prominent lawyer and managing partner at Marfo & Associates, has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Lottery Authority (NLA). This decision comes as part of a series of reassignments, shifting Marfo from his former role as chairman of the Gaming Commission.
The announcement, conveyed through a letter dated March 7, 2024, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, outlined the transition. The letter, which was circulated to key government officials including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Minister for the Interior Henry Quartey, and Minister for Finance Mohammed Amin Adam, directed Marfo to assume his new responsibilities effective March 11, 2024.
“I have been directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that effective Monday, 11 March 2024, you have been reassigned to chair the Governing Board of the National Lottery Authority pending receipt of the constitutionally required consultations with the Council of State,” the President’s letter stated.
Additionally, Marfo has been instructed to prepare and deliver handing over notes as the Chairperson of the Gaming Commission to the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission. The letter expressed gratitude for Marfo’s service to the Commission and extended the President’s best wishes.
