John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed that the proposed 24-hour economy will not be imposed on businesses. Emphasizing a voluntary approach, he highlighted that businesses will be encouraged to participate willingly.
Mahama, vowing to implement the 24-hour economy if elected in the 2024 elections, envisions it as a significant catalyst for Ghana’s economy, aiming to create numerous job opportunities for the youth. Speaking to members of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, Mahama assured that the NDC is actively pursuing the implementation of this policy upon assuming office.
He stressed that while the 24-hour economy is a key strategy for enhancing employment opportunities, it is not the sole solution. Mahama pledged to officially introduce the policy and provide further details before taking office, reiterating that participation would be optional.
Mahama stated, “It is a simple method to augment employment opportunities while simultaneously exploring additional avenues. However, it does not signify the exclusive strategy for addressing employment concerns. We will introduce it prior to assuming office, and upon taking office, we will swiftly advance with its implementation. As mentioned, participation will not be mandatory. It will be a voluntary choice for businesses to embrace.”
