In a letter dated Thursday, March 7, 2024, GWCL reported that the water level at the Weija Dam has been rapidly rising since the commencement of rains, necessitating regulated spillage to avoid threatening life and property.

The water corporation stated that the spilling procedure would begin at a modest pace to reduce downstream damage, but the actual rate would be determined by the incoming flow of water into the dam.

GWCL emphasised that the spillage will continue as long as the dam’s water level rose, as a preventive step to protect the dam from potential collapse.

GWCL expressed regret for any disruption that may result from the spill operation.
