Deputy CHRAJ Commissioner Passes On

The deputy commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Richard Ackom has passed on.
His death was announced in a notice dated 22 March, 2024, and signed by Henry Ashley, the director of human resources and administration, on behalf of the Commissioner.
The notice, made available to the GNA, stated: “It is with a heavy heart that we inform members of staff of the death of our Deputy Commissioner (APR), Mr. Richard Ackom Quayson, who passed away unexpectedly on the 21 March 2024, after a short illness.”
Quayson was appointed deputy commissioner of the Commission in August 2005, with oversight of the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate and public education.

Honoring Richard Ackom Quayson’s Legacy

During his tenure at CHRAJ, Mr. Quayson made significant contributions, starting as a Senior Legal Officer in 1993 and later assuming leadership roles such as Regional Director for the Western and Central Regions.

Mr. Quayson’s impact extended beyond CHRAJ. He chaired the National Working Group responsible for formulating Ghana’s National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) and played a pivotal role in its implementation. Additionally, he served as Vice Chairman of the High-Level Implementation Committee (HiLIC) and chaired the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (Monicom) of NACAP. His dedication to combating corruption was further evident in his leadership of the National Working Group tasked with evaluating Ghana’s adherence to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

As a distinguished lawyer admitted to the Ghana Bar in 1987, Mr. Quayson possessed expertise in human rights advocacy, administrative justice, and anti-corruption measures. His unwavering commitment to these principles leaves an indelible mark on Ghana’s legal and human rights landscape. He was married with 2 children.
