WAPCo Attributes Friday’s Power Outage to System Glitch

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has issued a statement regarding the intermittent power outage experienced in parts of the country on Friday, March 22, attributing it to a system glitch at the Tema facility.

According to reports, areas including Tema, Lapaz, Weija, Mallam, Kasoa barrier, and others were affected by the outage.

In the statement dated Saturday, March 23, 2024, WAPCo clarified that its Tema facility experienced a complete shutdown due to the system glitch around 10:30 pm. However, gas delivery resumed for customers in Tema at approximately 6:30 am on Saturday.

Dr. Isaac Adjei Doku, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at WAPCo, stated, “Our engineers worked diligently through the night, and we resumed gas delivery to our customers in Tema at around 6:30 am this morning.”

WAPCo emphasized its commitment to providing safe and reliable services, while also assuring the public that investigations are underway to identify the root cause of the problem and prevent future occurrences.
