ECG should furnish Ghanaians with a timetable – GUTA

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a timetable for “dumsor” and to promptly tackle the escalating crisis.

In a statement released by GUTA’s Director of Communications, Joseph Paddy, it highlighted the widespread impact dumsor has on various sectors of the economy, stressing on the urgent need for clarity on the causes of the power disruptions and a concrete timeline for resolution.

According to GUTA, the adverse effects of the power cuts are reverberating across all facets of Ghana’s economy, from agriculture to industry, with manufacturers struggling to maintain production schedules and businesses grappling with increased costs and operational challenges.

“Manufacturers for instance are finding it difficult to maintain production schedules as well as plan for their workers due to the inconsistency in the power supply, which also adds cost to production and worsens the living conditions of the people.”

“Traders-Shop owners, Wholesalers, Tailors and Dressmakers, Electricians, Artisans, and all those who use electricity in their business are suffering a great setback as a result of this “Dumsor” phenomenon, creating unbearable situation to businesses in the country.”

In an appeal to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), GUTA has called for transparency regarding efforts to address the crisis, including a detailed plan of action and a timetable for restoration of stable power supply.

“ECG should also furnish Ghanaians with a timetable for the “dumsor” to enable us plan our business activities.”

GUTA urged for immediate intervention to alleviate the hardship faced by the business community.
