NPP’s Kwabena Boateng Wins Ejisu By-Election with 55.8%

Kwabena Boateng, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emerged victorious in the Ejisu by-election.

Mr. Boateng secured 27,782 votes, accounting for 55.8% of the total votes cast, while Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an Independent Candidate, garnered 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the total votes cast.

Meanwhile, Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party received 140 votes, constituting 0.3%, and Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party obtained 89 votes, making up 0.2% of the total votes.

Independent Candidates Joseph Agyemang and Atakora Joseph received 222 votes (0.4%) and 23 votes respectively.

The by-election was conducted following the passing of Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024.

The competition was intense, notably between Kwabena Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, who contested as an Independent Candidate.

Allegations of vote buying were leveled against Kwabena Boateng’s campaign. In response, the Electoral Commission took action by removing two temporary staff members amid allegations of bribery. A viral video circulating online purportedly showed these individuals receiving a bribe during the Ejisu by-election.
