Ghana Card numbers used in registering 17 persons in Pusiga fake – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed that fraudulent Ghana Card numbers were used to register 17 individuals at the Pusiga District Registration Centre on May 13, 2024.

An investigation uncovered that these individuals had used counterfeit Ghana Card numbers during the ongoing voter registration process. The implicated Registration Officer, who failed to physically verify the Ghana Cards, accepted the fraudulent numbers from Party Agents accompanying the applicants. As a result, the officer was dismissed and arrested after the incident was reported to the police.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 20, the EC confirmed the Registration Officer’s complicity in the fraud.

“Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Ghana Card numbers were fake. It was further discovered that the Registration Officer was complicit because he did not physically inspect the Ghana Card of individual applicants but rather accepted the fake numbers from Party Agents who had accompanied the 17 applicants,” the statement read.

The dismissed officer has since been granted police enquiry bail while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the 17 applicants were registered using the Guarantor System.
