The Attorney General’s office has characterized Richard Jakpa’s motion to strike out charges against him as an extension of public theatrics aimed at discrediting the prosecution.
This assertion is contained in the Attorney General’s affidavit opposing Jakpa’s motion. Jakpa filed the motion on grounds that the Attorney General abused his office in conducting the prosecution.
Jakpa claimed that Godfred Yeboah Dame engaged him at odd hours to testify against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and first accused in this case. However, the Attorney General’s office has debunked all allegations raised against Dame.
The Attorney General argued that the prosecution is based on substantial evidence unearthed through meticulous investigations. The affidavit states, “The depositions in the affidavit in support of the instant application are laden with spurious allegations, carefully and mischievously calculated to create unnecessary anxiety about the court’s capacity to dispense justice.”
Furthermore, the Attorney General’s office contends that Jakpa’s application is an extension of the public theatrics the accused persons have resorted to, aiming to discredit the prosecution and cast doubt on the integrity of the proceedings. The AG emphasized that despite persistent insults and attacks on his integrity by those associated with the accused, he has maintained utmost professionalism throughout the case.
