He stated that all protocol procedures and plans had been made to welcome the numerous guests who would be visiting the region from all over the world, and that the event would go well.
Mr Seth Acheampong stated this at a media briefing on events planned to honour the day.
He urged the general population and media to follow the norms so that the day could be organised and celebrated smoothly.
He also mentioned additional plans, such as a commemoration of the February 28, 2024, Christiansburg cross-road shooting incident at the Freedom Monument in Osu and an anniversary debate at Koforidua Technical University’s Abba Bentil Hall.
He also stated that an Investment Forum will be conducted at the Regional Coordinating Council on Thursday, February 29, this year.
The Minister revealed that on Friday, March 1, 2024, there would be a National Flag Hoisting Day nationwide, with 4000 flags being hoisted to commemorate the anniversary, followed by a faith-based worship day across the country, with all Muslims offering National thanksgiving prayers to Allah for helping the country remain united and focused for the past 67 years.
“President will also honour some deserving school children who have excelled in their academics with the President’s Award on the same day.”
He disclosed that the Eastern Regional Tourism Authority had been charged with organising a tour of the region for both visitors and indigenes interested in participating in the domestic trip.
He stated that on Saturday, March 2, 2024, a Clean Ghana Day campaign would take place across the area, with all assemblies ensuring that the region was clean enough to receive guests for the celebrations.
“A musical concert, Security Fitness match, National Christian Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving across the country, Quizzes by schools, Wear Ghana Day, Fireworks by Ghana Armed Forces, Reenactment of Independence Declaration, Football Tournament as well as Boxing contest, among other activities, would also be held to mark the Independence Anniversary,” he said.
