Comrade Justice Baako Ntarmah, General Secretary of the Migrant Labour General Workers’ Union International (MLGWUI), delivered a passionate address at the 5th International Conference of Trade Union International (UISTAACT) in Dakar, Senegal.
He highlighted the challenges faced by migrant workers in the agriculture sector, emphasizing the need for decent work and human rights. Comrade Ntarmah urged African governments to implement effective migration policies and support MLGWUI’s efforts in defending workers’ rights, including combating human trafficking and exploitation.
Additionally, he appealed to Ghana’s President to engage MLGWUI in national migration coordination and address concerns such as increased passport fees and the voluntary return of African immigrant workers affected by recent demolitions.
The General Secretary concluded by rallying support for MLGWUI’s upcoming May Day activities, stressing the importance of workers’ voices being heard nationally and internationally. The conference concluded with solidarity and commitment to advancing migrant workers’ rights globally.
