A tragic incident at the Kumasi Abrepo Junction traffic light on Friday, May 17, resulted in the death of an on-duty community police officer believed to be in her mid-20s.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim, identified only as Tina, was assisting a main police officer in directing traffic due to a malfunctioning traffic light.
At around 10:00 a.m., a private car experienced brake failure, lost control, and struck five people.
“The officer was the first to be struck. She got trapped under a bus but was declared dead after a rescue mission,” an eyewitness recounted at the scene.
Among the injured was a medicine seller, who is in critical condition along with three others.
Police inspected the scene, noting blood stains and marking important locations for the investigation. Photographs were also taken to assist in the inquiry.
The vehicle, with registration number GS 9494-21, has been impounded by the police. The driver has been detained for questioning.
