NACOC Seizes Over 4.7 Tons of Tramadol Tablets at Tema Port

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized a massive haul of tramadol tablets at the Tema Port on Monday, January 29, 2024. The seized consignment, totalling 1,035,000 tablets and capsules, weighed a staggering 4,734.38 kilograms.

The varieties of tramadol capsules and tablets discovered in the seizure included 5,000 Royal tablets, weighing 51 cartons at 225mg each, 6,000 Timaking capsules, totalling 90 cartons at 120mg, and 6,000 Trafradol capsules, comprising 40 cartons at 120mg each.

This interception comes as part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, with rigorous examinations conducted on containers passing through the Tema Port.
NACOC has taken custody of the seized consignment and is collaborating with the Food and Drug Authority for further investigations into the matter.

In a statement, NACOC reiterated its commitment to curbing the threat of drug trafficking and reminded the public that possessing and transporting illicit drugs without lawful authorization is illegal and punishable under sections 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020.
The seizure underscores the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking and the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies to address this pressing issue.
