Locked-up Investment Holders Forum resumes planned picketing at the Finance Ministry

The Locked-Up Investment Holders Forum, an advocacy group representing individuals with investments in Finance Houses and Savings & Loans Companies licensed by the Bank of Ghana, has announced the resumption of its picketing activities at the Ministry of Finance. The group will resume its demonstrations on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

The forum initially began picketing the Ministry on May 15, 2024, demanding that the Minister for Finance allocate funds for the repayment of depositors’ money held by insolvent Finance Houses and Savings & Loans Companies. This action, they argue, is necessary for the Bank of Ghana to revoke the licenses of these institutions and facilitate the repayment of the depositors.

Despite informing the police of their intention to picket every Wednesday until the end of November 2024, the forum suspended its activities on May 22 and May 29, 2024, following a call from Dr. Stephen Amoah, the Deputy Minister for Finance. Dr. Amoah had assured the forum that he would meet with them on May 27, 2024, to discuss their petition.

However, the Ministry of Finance has not followed up on this promise, prompting the forum to resume its picketing efforts. The forum has reiterated its commitment to continue these demonstrations every Wednesday until their demands are met.

The Locked-Up Investment Holders Forum is calling on the press to support their cause as they seek a resolution for the payment of their locked-up funds.
