Akufo-Addo increases the time limit for KPMG’s audit of problematic SML contracts.

KPMG’s work is now projected to be completed by Friday, February 23, 2024, rather than Tuesday, January 16, 2024, as originally scheduled.

This is in response to KPMG’s request to the President for a two-week delay to finish the work.

On Wednesday, Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the President, signed a statement that said, “KPMG is to submit its final report no later than Friday, 23rd February 2024.”

The statement also stated that the president has taken notice of GRA’s request to allow the monitoring system installed and utilised by SML to continue, notwithstanding the suspension of GRA-related operations.

This comes after the GRA had argued that the “system will continue to record data real-time until your further directive after the conclusion of the investigation.”

This proposal was submitted in a response to the President dated January 16, 2024, and signed by GRA’s Commissioner General, Rev. Dr Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah.

According to GRA, the request originated from SML’s worries about the operational implications and interruptions that would result from the planned suspension of operations.

The Jubilee House issued a statement in which the President “directed that the status quo, with respect to the suspension of the performance of the contract, should remain in effect until the completion of the audit and, subsequent, submission of the audit report by KPMG.”
